"I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing; kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day, and I believe in miracles."- Audrey Hepburn

You gotta wake up slow

[2. Mar 20th - Banana Pancakes]

It's another weekend already and surprisingly, I have time today to allow myself an hour or so rolling around in bed and enjoying the morning before getting up for breakfast/brunch. I thought to myself, this would have been the perfect song for last Saturday, when the first spring sprinkles washed away the winter's depressing feeling and refreshed the world. This song just puts me at ease. The lyric says it all.

Banana Pancakes
by Jack Johnson
Well can't you see that it's just raining
there ain't no need to go outside.
But Baby, You hardly even notice
when I try to show you
this song is meant to keep ya
from doing what you're supposed to
waking up too early
Maybe we can sleep
making banana pancakes
pretend like it's the weekend now

And we can pretend it all the time, yeah
Can't you see that it's just raining
there ain't no need to go outside

But just maybe,
halaka ukulele
mama made a baby
Really don't mind the practice
cause you're my little lady
lady lady love me
cause I love to lay here lazy
we could close the curtains
pretend like there's no world outside

And we can pretend it all the time
and can't you see that it's just raining
there ain't no need to go outside
ain't no need ain't no need *mmmm* *mmmmm*
Can't you see, can't you see
rain all day
and I don't mind.

The telephone singing ringing it's too early don't pick it up
we don't need to
we got everything we need right here and everything we need is enough
just so easy
when the whole world fits inside of your arms
do we really need to pay attention to the alarm?
wake up slow, *mmm* *mmm* wake up slow
But baby You hardly even notice
when I try to show you
this song is meant to keep
from doing what you're supposed to
waking up too early
Maybe we can sleep
making banana pancakes
pretend like it's the weekend now.

And we can pretend it all the time
Can't you see that it's just raining
ain't no need to go outside
ain't no need ain't no need
rain all day and I really really really don't mind

Can't you see, can't you see,
you gotta wake up slow.

Fly me to the Moon

Saturday mornings - the entire campus is still indulged itself in the peaceful sleep, relaxing itself after a wild Friday night of parties and companionship. There cannot be any way that can possibly allow me to enjoy myself more than just a nice, long, relaxing Saturday brunch, by myself or with friends. Saturday is a smooth transition that makes me feel like I can put behind a hectic week and I don't have to think about the next week yet. An omelet, a long conversation recapping what happens during the week or last night, a cup of coffee and a gentle, good-feeling song never fail to mark the beginning of a good weekend.
Justify Full
I usually share songs with my friends during brunch so that they, too, can experience the happy and bubbly feelings of mine. Then I thought, I may as well make this a routine and share with others too, not only the songs but also my emotions.

[1. Mar 13th - Fly me to the Moon]

I came across this song while watching the Korean drama "You're beautiful" and I thought to myself "Man, I have not listened to this song for ages."

Korean dramas are, after all, Korean dramas: funny, sad, happy, depress, melodramatic, romantic. Most of the time I am not a big fan of them but some of them I have to admit that touch my heart and leave me with good feelings. Those Koreans are definitely experts at using music and melody to their advantage. Among other songs in the drama, this song stuck in my head although it was played only once. The version sang by the main actor Taekyung - Jang Geun Seuk was very Korean-style played on piano. The original version, composed in the 50s and performed by Felicia Sanders, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, etc. leans toward a jazz style. Westlife redid the song, too, if I remember it right. Utada Hikura also redid this song in 2007 with four different remixes in her single Beautiful World/Kiss & Cry.

My opinion: I just don't get the remix versions by Utada. I like the melody by itself so the remixes just kind of ruin it for me. I like the jazzy music of the original version but definitely, the short and sweet one was the one that stuck in my head. I like the piano and I am a Asian pop fan girl after all.

More importantly, though, the lyric is just beautiful.

Fly me to the moon

Fly me to the moon
Let me sing among those stars
Let me see what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars

In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby kiss me

Fill my heart with song
Let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore

In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you
